Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III – getting closer!

My latest camera is more or less exclusively for macro shots. Since large bugs are not too many, I needed a camera for the nothing lesser interesting smaller bugs.

Doing my research, I learned two things:

1. For really close close-ups you need focus stacking, and not too many affordable cameras do that.

2. Same is true for in built image stabilization or a tripod. I like to travel light, so a tripod is no option for me.

I knew I didn’t want to carry a large DSLR, so I looked for mirrorless. Here is a nice description of all the technical stuff.

Fujifilm offers some suitable models, but most of them are above 2000SDG, and that was too much, since I’m not even sure if I get used to carry a real camera instead of a phone.

In the range below 1000SGD I was left with Panasonic or Olympus. The Panasonic is 400SGD more, weighs 100g more, has slower shooting, but weather seal. That’s why I decided for the Olympus. There is not much to find (at least not easy to find) when it rains, so I can live with the missing seal.

At the moment I’m using the kit lens (14-42mm) and an attached Vitacon macro lens. That was much cheaper than the 30 or 60mm macro lenses and works quite well.
